Description

Green hydrogen is set to play a significant part in the energy mix to come. Today most commercial systems connect the photovoltaic source to the electrolyser through the alternating current grid, even though both operate on direct current. This project investigates transformerless partial-power DC-DC converters, built around an AC link, to connect photovoltaic panels directly to water electrolysers and so improve the cost and the efficiency of green hydrogen production.

Problem solved

Partial-power converters deliver high efficiency, greater power density and lower cost by processing only a fraction of the total energy, but conventional designs still need a transformer even where galvanic isolation is not required. This project sets out to remove that limitation.
